We've been getting loads of questions and comments, so we decided to put up this "question and answer" page! We take your questions seriously and answer them seriously as well...

QUESTION:  When did Performance Unlimited open?
ANSWER:     The store as it is known now, opened in July of 1990. The business, starting out in a home garage and first launched in the spring of 1979.

QUESTION:  How did the idea for the Performance Unlimited photo & info section web site come about? Why isn't there any charge for this incredible opportunity?
ANSWER:     We wanted to create a neat site with radical photos to entertain our customers and net surfers alike. We also wanted to have an on-line source for all sorts of technical documents so visitors could be able to access this information 24 hours a day. Originally we never planned on the site to be an "E-commerce" site, but rather just an entertainment haven of all things automotive. Only after years of pleading by visitors that wanted to buy merchandise from us online, did we finally offer internet sales. Even now we really only feature "special" items of interest on the site rather than a full blown store of what we have in stock. We did this to save room on our site for the huge photo galleries and technical areas, which people come to just to enjoy themselves. If they never buy a thing that would be ok too, as long as they have a good time! We don't charge for access because we get our payment in the form of thanks from the E-mails we receive as well as the orders we get, which ultimately pay for this site in the end.

QUESTION:  How long did it take to make up the Performance Unlimited website? It's unbelievable… I've been on for weeks and still haven't come close to seeing it all! Wow!
ANSWER:     It's a never ending project, and it's being updated all the time. To this date, Scanning, Digitizing, Editing and Uploading we have about 11,500 hours invested in the performanceunlimited.com web site.

QUESTION:  What gave you the idea for this cool Internet site?
ANSWER:     We wanted a place where people could go to enjoy themselves and have fun, all while maybe gaining a little knowledge if they wanted to. We didn't want an "overbearing" on-line mall type site, yet, so many have asked for our catalogs, we put up some of the neat stuff they might like, too. Our intense technical document section was intended to provide a vast knowledge database for our customers, and hoped to be especially useful for those late night hours out in the garage, when needing some technical information. All one would have to do is jump on their computer, and get that bolt torque spec or piston ring setting anytime they like… for FREE!

QUESTION:  I'm a Systems Analyst for a major corporation, and I evaluate websites for a living. After taking a detailed cruise through your vast resources, I am thoroughly impressed! Furthermore, I looked high and low for the usual "gimmic" attached to this extraordinary site… there are none! I thought for sure there'd be an "access fee" or "sales pitch." I saw your sale page, but that's hardly what I'd call "in your face" marketing. By the way, we estimated the production value of your website as of current, to be between $650,000 to $750,000… one of the most expensive sites I've ever evaluated. Did you do this site yourself? A Motorhead "and" a Computer Geek. Wow!
ANSWER:     Thanks for your compliment. Yes, we did this site entirely by myself (with a bit of help from a few friends and staff), as well as other for  a few businesses. High tech knows no boundaries between the garage and office. No, there is no hidden "gimmics" or any "catches" on performanceunlimited.com. A lot of people search for it, and of course, can't find any… they Email everyday asking! So then, why did we take all this time, money and effort to do this site in the first place? Ultimately, it's comments like yours that make it worthwhile! Hopefully, everyone will be able to gain at least one thing from our site, whether it be information from our vast database and document files, or just pure entertainment from our nearly endless photo gallery. We didn't really put this site up to sell products, however, if after enjoying our site, someone ends up buying something, all the better for everyone. However, if not, that's okay too, as long as you have a good time! Does this sound strange in this day and age of "telemarketing" and "demographic profiling?" Yeah, well… that's just the way it is at Performance Unlimited. "We're here to make the customer happy… and if we can make a living in the process, that'll just keep us around helping everyone out, that much longer."

QUESTION:  Two of your staff along with two of your customers were selected along with 6 others to compete in California at Four Wheeler's Top Truck Challenge in '98. What did you think of it? Was it worth the time and money?
ANSWER:     Incredible, man! It was the thrill of a lifetime! The FW staff was awesome, the judges were great and the fellow competitors were all hardcore four wheelers! The event far exceeded our expectations, and up to that point, we thought we'd seen it all. Was it worth it? Depends who you ask, although anyone who loves the sport of off roading like we do could only answer with an enthusiastic "YES!" Yeah, it was a lot out of our lives, but hey! It's not like we wouldn't have done it in a backwoods trail on any weekend, anyway. Those that don't think it's worth it can buy the magazine or watch the video's and be entertained. Those that see the value of the TTC can fill out the forms and hope they make it into the next competition. It's everyone's own choice, but if you live, eat and breathe four wheeling… this is one event that "not just anyone" makes it to. No siree indeed! You go to Top Truck and it'll stay with you all the way to discussing it around the card table in the nursing home when you're old and gray.
